Sustainability & Community Impact
At Bali Wellness Authority, we believe that personal wellness cannot be separated from the well-being of the planet and its people. Our philosophy is deeply influenced by the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana—the three causes of well-being: harmony with God, harmony among people, and harmony with nature. This principle guides our business practices and our commitment to creating a positive impact that extends far beyond the individual traveler’s journey.
Our Environmental Commitment: Preserving Paradise
Bali’s natural beauty is the sacred vessel that holds its healing energy. We are dedicated to its preservation through concrete actions and by championing partners who share this commitment.
- Carbon Neutral Operations: We track and measure the carbon footprint of our own operational activities. We are committed to offsetting 100% of these emissions through partnership with a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified reforestation project in an Indonesian rainforest, such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project in Kalimantan.
- Championing Plastic-Free Travel: We have a strict policy to prioritize and feature partners who have eliminated or have active, time-bound plans to eliminate single-use plastics. This includes banning plastic water bottles, straws, and bathroom amenities in favor of refillable and biodegradable alternatives.
- Water Stewardship: Water is a precious resource in Bali. Our evaluation methodology awards maximum points to properties that have implemented advanced water conservation systems, such as rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling for irrigation.
- Promoting Conscious Consumption: We encourage our clients to travel consciously by providing guidelines on reducing their environmental impact during their stay, from conserving energy to respecting marine ecosystems during any coastal activities.
Our Community Commitment: Empowering People
Our business is intrinsically linked to the people and culture of Bali. We are committed to ensuring that tourism is a force for good, creating sustainable livelihoods and preserving cultural heritage.
- Prioritizing Local Employment: We have a mandate that at least 85% of the staff at our featured partner properties must be Indonesian nationals, with a strong preference for those who employ a significant percentage from the local village or banjar. This ensures that tourism revenue directly benefits the host community.
- Supporting Local Economies: We actively promote and select retreats that source their food from local organic farms, furnish their spaces with crafts from local artisans, and utilize services from local entrepreneurs. This creates a virtuous cycle of economic empowerment.
- Direct Community Give-Back Program: Bali Wellness Authority, through its parent Juara Holding Group, pledges to donate 2% of its annual profits to vetted local foundations. Our primary partners in this initiative are the ROLE Foundation, which empowers women through skills training and environmental stewardship, and the Bali Children Foundation, which provides educational opportunities to disadvantaged children.
- Cultural Preservation: We see ourselves as guardians of authenticity. We actively refuse to partner with any organization that exploits or commercializes sacred rituals. Instead, we work with partners who provide authentic cultural education and support local cultural institutions like the Yayasan Purnati Center for the Arts.
Our journey into wellness is a journey into connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. This commitment to sustainability is our promise to honor that connection in all that we do.

Beyond carbon neutrality: Holistic environmental stewardship
The scent of frangipani blossoms mingling with the earthy aroma of volcanic soil, carried on a gentle breeze – this is the very essence of Bali, a symphony of natural beauty and spiritual depth that Bali Wellness Authority is fiercely committed to protecting. Bali’s emerald rice paddies and vibrant coral reefs, central to its allure, depend on a delicate balance of water. Bali Wellness Authority recognizes the critical importance of freshwater resources on an island increasingly facing scarcity. Our commitment extends to robust water conservation strategies across all partner properties and experiences. This includes implementing low-flow fixtures, promoting mindful water usage among guests through educational materials, and investing in advanced greywater recycling systems where feasible. We also actively support local initiatives focused on preserving Bali’s sacred springs and vital subak irrigation systems, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape whose intricate network has sustained communities for centuries.
The pristine beaches and lush landscapes of Bali are constantly challenged by waste management. Bali Wellness Authority champions a proactive, circular approach to waste reduction, moving far beyond mere recycling. Our operations prioritize eliminating single-use plastics, replacing them with elegant, sustainable alternatives like reusable glass bottles, bamboo amenities, and refillable dispensers. We partner with innovative local enterprises to ensure proper segregation, upcycling, and recycling of materials, while all organic waste from our culinary programs is meticulously composted to enrich local gardens and farms. This holistic strategy aims to significantly reduce landfill burden and protect Bali’s fragile marine ecosystems, which are home to over 2,000 species of reef fish crucial to the island’s biodiversity.
Preserving Bali’s unique biodiversity, from its vibrant tropical flora and fauna to its diverse marine life, is paramount to the ethos of Bali Wellness Authority. We meticulously vet our partners to ensure they adhere to strict guidelines against any practices that harm local ecosystems, such as destructive fishing or deforestation. Our commitment extends deeply into sustainable sourcing, prioritizing locally grown, organic produce and ethically harvested natural ingredients for all our wellness programs, spa treatments, and culinary offerings. This dedication not only significantly reduces our carbon footprint associated with transport but also directly supports local farmers, fishermen, and communities, maintaining the integrity and health of Bali’s agricultural heritage and natural environment for generations to come.
Empowering communities: Weaving a tapestry of authentic connection
The true soul of Bali resides in its people, their vibrant culture, and their deep-rooted traditions. Bali Wellness Authority believes that true luxury tourism must enrich, not exploit, these communities, aligning perfectly with the “harmony among people” aspect of Tri Hita Karana. Our commitment translates into tangible support for the local economy, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are widely shared and genuinely impactful, fostering a sense of pride and ownership within the island’s population.
We forge direct, transparent partnerships with Balinese artisans, craftspeople, and small businesses, ensuring fair wages, ethical working conditions, and respect for traditional techniques. From intricate wood carvings and hand-woven textiles to exquisite silverwork and natural body products, every souvenir, amenity, and design element curated by Bali Wellness Authority tells a story of local craftsmanship and heritage. We actively seek out women-led cooperatives and family-run enterprises, providing them with a vital platform to showcase their talents to a discerning global audience, thereby sustaining ancient skills and empowering local entrepreneurs who are the guardians of Balinese artistry.
Preserving Bali’s rich and living cultural tapestry is integral to the mission of Bali Wellness Authority. We offer guests unique opportunities to engage with Balinese culture in respectful and meaningful ways, far beyond typical tourist encounters. This includes immersive experiences like traditional cooking classes using indigenous ingredients, participation in authentic temple ceremonies with knowledgeable local guides, and workshops on Balinese offerings. Furthermore, we actively contribute to educational initiatives that promote the understanding and continuation of Balinese arts, dance, and spiritual practices. For instance, Bali Wellness Authority proudly supports programs that teach traditional gamelan music to young Balinese, ensuring the survival of this complex and beautiful
